Marvin Gaye on the cover of his 1973 album, Let's Get It On. In 1987, Marvin was inducted posthumously to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Marvin's first wife Anna Gordy and son Marvin III accepting for Marvin. He was later given his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990. In 1996, he was posthumously awarded with the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement Award and was honored in song by admirers Annie Lennox and Seal. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #18 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[9]
Gaye was inspired to write about the war by his brother, Frankie Gay, who had just returned from the front lines. Gordy refused to release the album when he first heard it, though he eventually gave in. The album ended up having three Top Ten singles.

Kim Weston exited the company in early '67, leaving Marvin in search of a duet partner. This time the label teamed him with vivacious Philly native Terrell. From the outset, it was a match made in heaven. "That was Mr. Gordy's idea, as far as I know," said Johnny Bristol, who produced their first duets with partner Harvey Fuqua.
One of Motown Records most successful artists, Gaye was married to Anna Gordy, who was the sister of Motown head Berry Gordy. The marriage ended in divorce, and Gaye named his 1976 album "Here, My Dear" after being ordered to pay Anna the royalties.

Marvin Gaye: Let's Get It On What do you say about Marvin Gaye that hasn't been said already? Sweet-voiced vocalist trained in gospel by his authoritarian preacher father; got into pop music and helped Motown expand into an empire with his boyish good looks and loverman persona; fought against Berry Gordy for artistic control, and won, leading to What's Going On and Let's Get It On; descended into drug- and rage-induced spiral; big comeback in early 80s with "Sexual Healing"; shot to death by drug-crazed father.
