In the fourth quarter, Marvel, creator of Spider-Man, X-Men and other characters, repurchased 6.9 million of its shares, and it has bought back another 5.1 million shares so far during the first quarter, Crockett said. Since launching its buyback program in July 2004, Marvel has purchased 25.5 million shares, or 26 percent of its float.

Variety reports that Dimension Films will produce a feature film based on the Marvel Comics characters Cloak and Dagger. The characters have had their own short-lived series, and they currently appear in "Marvel Knights." David Tischman, who has previously written the "Mutant X" comic books, will write the film's script.

Artisan Entertainment is pushing ahead with a film adaptation of "The Punisher," based on the Marvel Comics character, according to Variety. Jonathan Hensleigh will direct the film, which will ignore the previous "Punisher" film starring Dolph Lundgren.

Since then there have been some ups and downs for the comic book industry but at the moment it seems to be the Marvel Age of movies. In the last few years Marvel has several of their characters turned into major motion pictures that have brought in millions of dollars, including Blade, Punisher, Spiderman, the Hulk, and Daredevil.
