On June 24 Martina was in Richmond, Surrey (England) to attend the IWC-Laureus Polo Cup, where world top polo players like Adolfo Cambiaso competed in order to raise funds for 'Fundación Laureus Argentina'. Former collegue Boris Becker was present as well. Some days later, on June 30, Martina joined other Academy members at the 'Laureus Sport for Good Foundation annual Wimbledon Summer Celebration'.
Martina Navratilova It wasn't easy for Martina Navratilova, born a Czechoslovakian but with the heart of an American. It was hard shaping up and winning a record nine Wimbledons, including six consecutively on the hallowed grass. It was even more difficult winning over the fans. Her public perception advanced from animosity to acceptance to adulation.

As for motivation this fortnight, Navratilova found inspiration from the late Katharine Hepburn, a friend Navratilova always wanted to watch her at Wimbledon but who never did. Navratilova admired Hepburn's pioneering spirit and determination to live her life on her own terms and not society's. Sounds like someone familiar.
Navratilova won the Wimbledon singles championship in 1978 and again in 1979, when she finished the year as the world's top-ranked player. In 1981 she became a U.S. citizen. From 1982 to 1987 she held the number-one ranking for all but 22 weeks of a 282-week span.

Elegant former champion Virginia Wade watched Navratilova from the broadcast booth this season and ... gave her high marks.
