built 388 days ago
In The Philosophy of Martin Scorsese, an impressive cast of contributors explores the complex themes and philosophical underpinnings of Martin Scorsese's films. One of the most significant filmmakers in the history of American cinema, Scorsese is the creative force behind films such as GoodFellas, Taxi Driver, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Aviator, and The Age of Innocence. The contributing authors use Scorsese's films as vehicles for exploration of philosophical concepts such as friendship and egoism, vigilantism, libertarianism, Buddhist ethics, desire and self-restraint, madness, the criminal mind, beatitude and unhappiness, and the absurd.

The original LP of Herrmann's last great score & one of Martin Scorsese's great films. Album illustrated with artwork portrait of DeNiro by Guy Peellaert. Color photos on the back. Sheet of recording notes in Japanese and English laid in. Small corner cut to album, which might indicate it was remainded at one time. Fine/Near fine.

Martin Scorsese doesn't rely on special effects or commercialism to tell his tales; just brilliant story telling. Few have been around as long and few have been as hailed as he has in his career. While typically he chooses to focus on mob and gangster-related stories and characters, he definitely hasn’t stereocast himself. Instead he has proven himself to be awe inspiring in just about every genre available.

Scorsese is on a mission for international understanding in Cannes, where he launched his World Cinema Foundation, devoted to preserving and restoring neglected film treasures from around the world. Ask him what international filmmakers he admires and the list goes on and on, starting with Italian greats such as Roberto Rossellini, Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Bernardo Bertolucci and Marco Bellocchio. Postwar cinema alone, especially, is a "very rich feast".
