In 1991, after the death of her father Danny Thomas, Emmy Award-winning actress Marlo Thomas planned to carry on his work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital just long enough to see the facility through the transition. But it didn’t take long for Thomas to embrace the same calling that had inspired her father to establish the Memphis-based hospital in 1962. Today, she works tirelessly as national outreach director for St. Jude — working to raise money and awareness to support cutting-edge research and treatment of pediatric cancers and other diseases.

This is the third year for long-time St. Jude supporter, Larry King, to invite Marlo Thomas to share stories of hope, like Christian's, with his viewers during Thanks and Giving. Christian's story is a unique one -- it began in October 2003 when Christian developed flu-like symptoms. His parents took him to see their pediatrician, who suggested rest and fluids. But three days later, Christian woke up vomiting and crying that his head hurt "really bad." His doctor sent him for an MRI and lab work at the local children's hospital, where Christian was diagnosed with ependymoma, a brain tumor. Two days after his diagnosis, Christian underwent a nine-hour brain surgery to remove the tumor.

...On January 12, Belafonte was in New York City, along with actress Marlo Thomas and Senator Hillary Clinton, to participate in a fundraising luncheon at the luxurious Rainbow Room for the Chiidren's Defense Fund. ( The US Fund for UNICEF --unrelated to the Children's Defense Fund, an American organiation- - had already released a statement that Harry Belafonte had talked as a private citizen in his criticism of President Bush.) Senator Clinton was the keynote speaker at the event....and refused to address his ( Belafonte's) remarks (on January 8, in Caracas) when pressed by reporters.
