Marlboro Team Penske: Penske Racing
built 225 days ago
Prior to the start of the 1990 season Marlboro Racing, long associated with successful motorsports sponsorship programs, joined forces with Penske Racing, the most successful team in American open-wheel Championship racing, to form Marlboro Team Penske. This partnership has produced over 60 Indy car race wins, including six Indianapolis 500-Mile race victories and three National Championships.
Penske's #3 Dallara-Honda at the 2007 Indianapolis 500 In 2001, Team Penske marked its return to Indy 500 after a five year absence due to the open wheel split after the 1995 CART season. Later in 2001 Roger Penske announced he would leave CART for the Indy Racing League.
Team Penske has a long and storied tradition at Indy, dating back to their first win in 1972 with the late Mark Donahue in the cockpit. Their last win was by Unser's 1994 victory, with eight other victories in between. Always one of the dominate forces in open-wheel racing, Team Penske has always been the team to beat anytime they pulled into Gasoline Alley.
