built 226 days ago
In 2003, Hornish̢۪s lifelong dream came true when Marlboro Team Penske invited him to join the Team, replacing the newly retired Gil de Ferran in the #6 Dallara/Toyota for the 2004 season. Hornish quickly proved himself by winning his twelfth career IndyCar race in his debut with the Team. His victory marked the first time an Indy car driver has won in his inaugural run with the Team in the 37-year history of Penske Racing and the fifth time Penske Racing has begun an open-wheel season by capturing the checkered flag.

Hornish’s Marlboro Team Penske Toyota has been strong on the 1.5-mile tracks this season with seconds at Homestead and Texas, and a pole at Motegi, Japan. For the season, the Defiance, Ohio-native is second overall in point standings, with five top-two finishes and six top-five showings in 11 races.

Toyota Motor Corporation has a controlling interest in Hino and the link up with Penske Racing is a “natural”, as TRD, Toyota’s racing division in the US, has been involved with some of Team Penske’s motor sport projects in the past. Among team owner Roger Penske’s many companies are major Toyota and Hino dealers operating in the United States. Hino has been linked with the Penske Group’s retailing operation since 2003
