Mark Martin: Seasons
built 632 days ago
In 1988 Mark Martin joined with Jack Roush and the two have been together ever since. No current driver has been with the same team as long as Martin has been teamed up with Jack Roush. Martin got his first Winston Cup victory toward the end of the 1989 season at Rockingham.

Mark Martin cruises through the 2008 season in this Army #8 Impala. The 1:24 Contender die-cast stock car from Checkered Flag has a die-cast body and chassis, manufacturer-specific engine detail and an opening hood and trunk with detailed compartment. The officially licensed die-cast stock car is designed with tampo-printed graphics and high-quality paint.
Mark Martin began racing at 15 and on his third start ever took home the checkered flag. By the end of his first season Mark Martin was the 1974 Arkansas State Champion. In 1976 he moved from the dirt tracks to racing V-8’s on asphalt. In 1977 he was racing in the ASA series and was named Rookie of the Year. He won the ASA Championship title in ’78, ’79, and again in 1980.

Mark Martin has the team, resources and talent to win the 2006 Nextel Cup Championship. The question surrounds his desire. After announcing that 2005 would be his final season, Martin was talked back into the car not because he wanted another 38 weekends of work, but because car owner Jack Roush pleaded. So Jack got his wish, and Martin will return for a “Re-Salute to You” Tour in hopes he can win his first Cup in his 20th attempt.
Mark Martin has announced a new deal with DEI that has him racing in the Sprint Cup Series through at least 2009. “When we made the change (merger with Ginn Racing), we did a new contract with Dale Earnhardt Inc. that was long term, which includes my racing in Cup again in 2009 and is sort of unspecified for the next three years after that.” Along with running his limited schedule for DEI this season, Martin will drive in 24 of 36 points races, as well as the Budweiser Shootout this Saturday and the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in May. Rookie Aric Almirola will replace Martin the #8 U.S. Army Chevrolet the remaining 12 races.
In 2006 Martin offered to assist his former owner by returning to NASCAR. In 2007 Martin began his first part-time season in NASCAR with Ginn Racing. He earned not one, not two, but three consecutive finishes in the top five, a feat he had never before accomplished in his long NASCAR career. He finished just inches behind Kevin Harvick in the Daytona 500. In August of 2007, Dale Earnhardt, Inc. absorbed Ginn Racing, including Mark Martin’s contract.
