Despite little money and even less opportunity near his home in Australia, Mark Hensby was determined to make it as a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. After more than 10 years grinding it out on the amateur circuit and various minor tours Mark has paid his dues to the PGA tour with hard work and determination.

Colin Montgomerie was eliminated Thursday in the first round of the World Match Play Championship by Mark Hensby. Hensby won 2 and 1 against the eighth-seeded Montgomerie. Up next for Hensby is top-seeded Retief Goosen, who beat Kenneth Ferrie 8 and 7. Michael Campbell and Angel Cabrera were among the other winners.

On 18, Hensby had a chance to force a playoff when Weir hit his second shot into a greenside bunker. But Hensby's chance died when his chip shot from an embankment missed by less than a foot and Weir chipped to about 6 feet, then rolled home the winner.

Hensby's relationship with Singh has proven to be enduring. He is well aware that his brief love affair with the Masters could be short-lived. But he ... knows how far he has come. "The bottom line is you never forget the struggles you go through, but I think it makes you stronger in a way," he said. "To win an event like this, or any event, you have to have a lot inside and that's not easy, there's no doubt."
