Marion Bartoli wurde im Alter von sechs Jahren von ihrem Vater Dr. Walter Bartoli, einem Arzt, an das Tennisspiel herangeführt. Im Jahr 2000 wurde sie Tennisprofi. Die 1,70 m große Rechtshänderin spielt eine beidhändige Vor- und Rückhand, was im internationalen Profi-Tennis eine Seltenheit ist. Bartoli entschied sich im Kindesalter für diese Spielweise, da sie damals ein großer Fan der ehemaligen Weltranglistenersten Monica Seles war, die als erste Spielerin Vor- und Rückhand erfolgreich beidhändig spielte.

Marion Bartoli needs to hit the gym if she wants to have a real chance at competing for majors. She is terribly out of shape for an athlete. There's a big difference between loving your body, which may not be thin, but is healthy, and condoning an athlete who is overweight, and out of shape, due to laziness.
