'Mario Kart DS' Screenshot 1 [Y]ou don't even have to be in the same room as your friends to play Mario Kart multiplayer these days, thanks to Nintendo's much-hyped Wi-Fi Connection service. Follow the simple on-screen instructions to hook up to your wireless router, or invest in a Nintendo USB Wi-Fi dongle if you haven't got one, and then choose who you want to play against, up to a maximum of four players.

Yoshi, Baby Mario and Luigi's kart are a good combination. Baby Mario's Chomp helps you when you are under fifth and Yoshi's Homing Egg helps when you are on second and down.

The tracks are choc-a-block with cutesy Ninty references, such as these NES-sprite lamppost placards (with 'MARIO KART' written like the Nintendo logo). even if ducking down the green chimneys would get you a singed 'ass' if the smoke's anything to go by.
The Mushroom Kingdom just got a whole lot more hectic as Mario and company double up for furious kart racing, but this time they're driving two-seaters! Pick a partner and race through wild courses as you compete in tough circuits or duke it out with power-ups and items in battle arenas.
'Mario Kart DS' Screenshot 3 The weapons and power-up system works just as it does in previous Mario Karts - you pick items up by running into boxes, and then they're displayed in a little box at the top of your screen. You can tag items like banana skins and shells to the back of your kart by pressing and holding the left shoulder button, protecting yourself from attacks in the process and leaving you free to pick up another object.
