Nintendo's Mario and Wario, for Super Famicom, was a kind of clever Gyromite riff. On the box, Mario stands with a shiny bucket on his head, being led around by a fairy -- the player character. Wario, big and fat and ugly as ever, looks fatter and uglier next to a shiny bucket and a worried fairy.

Mario & Wario is a fun, strange hybrid of puzzle and action that brings another distinct experience to Nintendo's 16-bit system. The game plays like Lemmings in a way, except you only have to deal with one character instead of a many, meaning the play is much more focused. You can't let Mario wander into any of the traps, because if he dies, the level has to be tried again.

In direct contrast to Mario, who is heroic and kind, Wario is greedy, lazy, ill-mannered, and manipulative. He is hugely jealous of Mario's fame, and has frequently tried to steal enough wealth to make himself as beloved as Mario. While he has been rich at times (to the point of owning his own giant castle full of golden coins more than once), usually his get-rich-quick schemes seem to go wrong. According to a comic story published in Nintendo Power , the reason Wario acts the way he does is because Mario bullied him when they were both young. Wario especially hated playing cowboy s, because he was almost always the rustler that the sheriff, played by Mario, had to arrest. On the commercial of Wario Land Wario was played by Brad Garrett .

Mario is Luigi's one and only confirmed brother. Mario's abilities are similar to Luigi's. Unlike Luigi, his personality is brave and strong. Since Mario usually goes on his adventures without him, Luigi is often depicted as jealous of him and wants more fame, though he's usually too timid and scared to try. Luigi may ... be jealous of some of Mario's more obscure skills, as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars indicates that one of Luigi's deep desires is for his plumbing abilities to match those of his brother. The Super Mario Kart manual also states that Mario and Luigi have long been engaged in a friendly rivalry, this has been hinted in Both Mario Tennis and Power Tennis.

IGN reports that the texting option in Mario Kart Wii is limited to people you've swapped friends codes with (of course), and text-chatting is only possible before, and presumably after, racing matches. Text entry via Wii Remote is assumed, and IGN wagers that USB keyboards may be supported as well, as keyboard support has been included in most Wii software.
