Mariah Carey: Long Island

The video for Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," which debuts next week, is going to feature Jack McBrayer--a.k.a. 30 Rock's ubernaif page Kenneth Parcell--and you may not be surprised by the fact that he's apparently playing a guy who's kind of a nerd. (Toya's World has shots of McBrayer in full-on rainbow-headband workout mode.) Not only that, but the clip was directed by Rush Hour auteur Brett Ratner! Hmm, when you compare this clip's probable budget to that of Janet Jackson's Plan 9-looking "Feedback", then think about the difference between the blog smackdowns given to sites that dared post a snippet of "Touch" and the unsullied sites that are dealing in .zip files of Discipline right now, you get a pretty clear picture of what Island Def Jam's priorities are at the moment, don't you? As a multiracial family, the Carey household was met with racial slurs, hostility and even violence. Thus, the family moved around the New York area often to find more friendly neighborhoods. The strain on the family led to the divorce of Alfred and Patricia when Mariah was three; Mariah and Morgan stayed with their mother while Alison stayed with their father. Mariah had little contact with her father, except for sporadic visits on weekends but even those dwindled as the years went by; Patricia raised Mariah, often struggling with two or three jobs and continuing to move among different towns on Long Island, but tried to provide a spirited, loving household. Although, Patrica tried to be a good parent, it is generally believed that she failed in a sense as a parent, as Mariah has often mentioned that she grew up quick for her age being exposed to traumatic incidents as a child, and learning to deal with being alone as her mother and brother were never home. In a sense, Mariah has often mentioned that music helped raise her in a way when no one else was there.

Carey was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York. She is the third and youngest child of Patricia Hickey, a former opera singer and vocal coach of Irish American descent, and Alfred Roy Carey, an aeronautical engineer of African American and Venezuelan descent.[6] As a multiethnic family, the Careys endured racial slurs, hostility, and sometimes violence, causing the family to relocate frequently throughout the New York area. Carey's parents divorced when she was three years old.[7]

Plus, Carey didn't even know if she wanted to tour. She dreaded staging a long jaunt, and was taking time to savor the sweet success of her comeback. But after some cajoling from fans, the multi-octave diva realized that she needed to be on stage — that she wanted to celebrate the album that marked one of the sweetest times in her long career.

The narrow-minded star has successfully sued porn star Mary Carey in order to halt the use of her similar sounding name. A judge has decided the naked wonder - born as Mary Ellen Cook - may no longer go by the moniker that jump started her sex-crazed career in 2002.
