Margaret Cho was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She was schooled by old hippies, drag queens, and family on Haight Street. Cho has comedy in her blood. Her father writes joke books. You may not have read any, because they're all in Korean. Even though she and her father are in the same line of business, they don't run on the same line of comedy.

In this MGM release Cho plays the best friend of a man who discovers that he is dying of AIDS (Roberts) and throws a party for himself. Margaret ... stars alongside Janeane Garofalo in "Sweethearts" which was the toast of last year’s Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for nation wide theatrical release this summer. Additionally, Cho delivers a seem-bursting performance as a deranged karaoke club owner in the Linda Perry production of "Pink as the Day She was Born". On as equally a comedic ground, Margaret took to the streets of South Central LA where she portrayed a Chinese exchange student in the hysterical "Fakin D’ Funk".

In July 2004 during the Democratic National Convention, Cho was un-invited to speak at a Human Rights Campaign/National Stonewall Democrats fundraiser out of the fear that her comments might cause controversy. In November 2005, she campaigned to pardon Stanley "Tookie" Williams, an early Crips gang leader, for his death sentence for four murders. On December 13, 2005, after exhausting all forms of appeal, Williams was executed by lethal injection at San Quentin State Prison, California [19].

Cho became a target of conservative wrath in January when she performed at a rally sponsored by liberal activist group MoveOn. Her 20-minute set included a few minutes of jokes critical of the president and his party (sample line: ''George Bush is not Hitler. He would be if he f---ing applied himself.''), earning herself some scolding media coverage and scads of racist and sexist emails, which she posted at her website.
