The 119th Rose Parade themed Passport to the World's Celebrations will take place Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at 8 a.m. (PST) featuring majestic floral floats, high-stepping equestrian units and spirited marching bands from throughout the nation. Those in marching band understand that the day's competition doesn't end at the last note. Appearing professional during your entire stay, from the moment you step off the bus until the moment you step back on it, is just as important as the 10 or so minutes that you're tooting your horn or flipping your flag.

Band members ... try to keep a constant pace or step size while marching in parade. This usually varies between 22 and 30 inches (56รข€“76 cm) per stride. A step size of 22.5 inches is called 8-to-5 because the marcher covers five yards (about 4.6 m) in eight steps. A step size of 30 inches is called 6-to-5 because five yards are covered in six steps. Because yard lines on an American football field are five yards apart, exact 8-to-5 and 6-to-5 steps are most useful for field shows.
