Through its presenting sponsorship, UTC will continue working on innovative ways to make the Hartford Marathon "greener" and more sustainable. An example from the 2007 race was the 40-spout water fountain that quenched thirsts at the finish line while eliminating the need for an estimated 10,000 plastic water bottles.

During the first quarter 2007, the sweet crudes available to process at Marathon refineries were comparatively higher priced relative to WTI due to changes in the crude market. For example, Light Louisiana Sweet (LLS) averaged about $2.50 per barrel more than WTI in the first quarter 2007 compared to averaging only about $.50 per barrel more than WTI in the first quarter 2006. The Company was not able to obtain additional WTI crude for refinery processing in the first quarter 2007 due to constraints on pipelines leading from Cushing, Okla. In addition, the narrowing of the sweet/sour market differential increased the cost of the sour crudes the Company ran in the first quarter 2007 compared to the same quarter last year. Therefore, even though market indicators for refining margins were stronger in the Midwest (Chicago) and Gulf Coast, as a result of this weakening in WTI market prices, the Company projects its first quarter 2007 refining and wholesale marketing gross margin per gallon to be comparable to the first quarter 2006.
