- Quake -- Levels
DeadLy_sp has released a new Quake 3 Deathmatch map called "Dsp3dm1 - Not Yet". This is his first Quake 3 map after a long run of mapping for Quake 1. The title of the map is supposed to reflect his inexperience with Quake 3 level design, and he will apparently continue to map in a QuakeWorld style. You can view screenshots and download "Not Yet" at Func_Msgboard. - Gladiator (2000) -- Ridley Scott
Following his work on Gladiator and Mission Impossible II, Zimmer began work on two new films scheduled for release in 2001: Ridley Scott's Hannibal and Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor. On 10 October 2000, Zimmer took time off from his film work to open the 27th Flanders International Film Festival with a live concert along with the Flemish Radio Orchestra in Ghent, Belgium. - Gladiator (2000) -- Marcus Aurelius
Regardless of the inherent limitations of the storytelling choices, the performances in Gladiator are unwaveringly excellent. Scene by scene, the events always remain watchable, because this cast is so emminently watchable. (Though Hans Zimmer's overblown, occasionally grating score sometimes undermines their efforts, particularly in the first third of the film.) The trio of veteran British actors who represent the Old Guard of Roman society bring charisma and gravity to their roles. Richard Harris' world-weary regality is perfect for Marcus Aurelius, who is the true spiritual center of the film's thematic content. It's sad to see this character exit so soon, both for the emperor's presence in the story and for Harris' presence on the screen. Oliver Reed (sadly, in his final role) is a different kind of world-weary as Proximo, the trainer/caretaker of the gladiators. - Shaquille O'neal -- Miami Heat
Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant arrived together in LA in 1996 and would become one of the NBA's best guard-center combos. The two helped the Lakers win three straight NBA titles between 2000 and 2002. Despite the Lakers three NBA titles, Shaq and Kobe were constantly feuding over playing time, who should get more shots and just about everything else. The feud didn't seem to bother too many people as long as the team was winning, but once the NBA titles stopped, it was time for Kobe and Shaq to split. After the Lakers lost to the Detroit Pistons in the 2004 NBA finals, Shaq asked to be traded and was sent to the Miami Heat. The return of the Shaq Attack to Florida has turned the Miami Heat into one of the Eastern Conference's top teams. - Younes El Aynaoui
- Melina Mercouri -- Jules Dassin
In the film, Melina Mercouri portrays a Russian actress who has dreams of seeing her son becoming famous. Skilfully, Delerue adds Russian flavours (the accordion melody in 'Leningrad - Prologue' is one of those beautiful, slow and romantic Delerue themes you just fall in love with immediately) to a score that ... has a lot of other influences, the most striking ones coming from Vivaldi. Promise At Dawn is a pretty eclectic work with a distinctly classical sound where Delerue's own melodic genius meets the influences of masters like Mozart, Glinka and Vivaldi. You can also hear traces of his own groundbreaking score for Jules et Jim in gallop pieces like 'Pursuit (To the Chemistry)' and 'Romain Riding a Bicycle'. - Montevideo
Montevideo, the southernmost capital on the continent, is home to half the country's population. Born on the banks of the Río de la Plata, Montevideo first existed as a fortress of the Spanish Empire and developed into a major port city in the mid-18th century. European immigrants, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, and British, influenced the city's architecture, and a walk around the capital reveals architectural styles ranging from colonial to Art Deco. Indeed, the richness of Montevideo's architecture is unrivaled in South America. - Mega Man X7 -- Games
Mega Man X7 is the series' first leap into next-gen and the blue bomber doesn't muster up enough gameplay to compliment its new 3D visuals. The title suffers from simplistic, non-technical gameplay that doesn't come close to doing the series justice.
