The "Zoom Factor" slider is used to draw the Mandelbrot set with a magnification factor. By default, a scale value of 0 shows the entirety of the Mandelbrot set. Each increase by one zooms in by a factor of two.

Similar patterns of iteration hold for some of the complex numbers in the Mandelbrot set: for certain values of C repeated iterations of z^2 + C can lead to a finite cycle of complex numbers. For example, the complex number 0 + li leads to an indefinite oscillation between the two complex numbers 1 + li and 0 li. The cycle may even have only one member. Whether such cycles are found in a finite set or in the infinite Mandelbrot set, they are called attractors.

Not every hyperbolic component can be reached by a sequence of direct bifurcations from the main cardioid of the Mandelbrot set. However, such a component can be reached by a sequence of direct bifurcations from the main cardioid of a little Mandelbrot copy (see below).
