The Mandelbrot set is considered to be a single connected set. The following zoom sequence concentrates on one of the tendrils that runs from the top portion of the set. The zoom factor increases by a factor of 5 going from left to right, the zoom is about the center of each image. The center of this image on the complex plane is (-0.170337,-1.06506).

The Mcube Set has a less complex boundary than the Mandelbrot Set with fewer interesting images. The Jcube sets... produce images that are quite comparable to the Julia set images.

Many readers have lost themselves in the colored intricacies of the Mandelbrot set by zooming ever deeper. Other readers, whose equipment is limited to black and white, may quite effectively develop shades of gray. Such pictures can be nearly as inspiring as their colored counterparts. The best gray images were produced by David W. Brooks, who works with equipment at Prime Computer, Inc., in Framingham, Mass., to compute and plot his pictures. In his fabulous and delicate riots of halftones, each shade of gray is rendered by tiny black squares of a certain size; the squares are made by a laser printer. Brooks has been searching for the tiny filaments that are thought to connect miniature Mandelbrots to the main set.
