Manchester Airport: Passengers
built 232 days ago
Manchester is to gain a second service to New York's Newark Airport, arguably a better arrival point than JFK. Continental Airlines is to take the unusual step on 10 June of replacing its current wide-bodied Boeing 777 operation with two Boeing 757 services all year round. The revised operation gives nearly 50% extra seat capacity in the winter (and 21% in the summer). The choice of departure/arrival times will be of real benefit to passengers. OAG's Airline of the Year 2004 points out that in its BusinessFirst section the 2 + 2 layout is identical to the previous accommodation in a 777 but with the centre seats removed. British Airways ... offer single Boeing 767 service to the less attractive New York Kennedy Airport.
Manchester International Airport ranks among the busiest airports in the UK, handling more than 189,000 takeoffs and landings and nearly 20 million passengers a year. The airport boasts three modern terminals, offering flights with a wide range of national and international carriers.

Airport Hotels (hilton) More that 20 million passengers fly from Manchester International Airport (MAN) every year. The Airport is located with one third of the UK population living within a two hour travel radius. Manchester Airport is ideally situated - halfway between London and Edinburgh, 80 miles from Birmingham and 60 miles from Leeds.
Annually around 20 million passengers pass through Manchester Airport. Smooth operations on this scale couldn’t be achieved without an exceptional IT infrastructure, managed by Manchester Airport but used by all of the 250 companies that operate on the site. This IT infrastructure includes 120 servers, 64 communications rooms, 900 business workstations, 6,500 telephone extensions – and 5,000 km optical fibre!
On March 1, 2005, after a PIA Boeing 777-200ER landed at Manchester International Airport, fire was seen around the left main landing gear. The crew and passengers were evacuated and fire put under control. There were minor injuries to some passengers and the aircraft suffered minor damage.[22]
Each kiosk ... provides information relating specifically to passenger facilities and to retail outlets located on the airport site, as well as information about the Manchester region. Large plasma screens on top show information relating to where you are and what you should do next. The kiosk is a revolutionary wedge shape to improve passenger flow at busy periods and is ruggedised to prevent damage from luggage trolleys. The third side of the kiosk currently enables passengers to print out special offer vouchers for use in the airport shops and will be developed further in order to maximise revenue generating potential.
