LYCOS RETRIEVER
Maltese: Maltese Falcon
built 654 days ago
When a replica of the Maltese Falcon was stolen from John’s Grill in San Francisco, owner John Konstin turned to Academy of Art University’s School of Fine Art Sculpture to create a new one. Instructor Peter Schiffrin and students Zach Roberts and Ah Young Jeon have spent the past month developing a replica of the famous movie icon. "One of the hardest things was making this like the original Maltese Falcon, but not too much like the falcon," Schifrin said. "I wanted to make this more falcony, because the original was more parroty or even pigeony."

The Maltese Falcon is basically a showcase for Bogart. A role that seems to be made for him, even with two previous attempts at the film. He is and always was born to play Sam Spade. The tough guy private investigator, who always has the right things to say. More likely to fire a witty comeback than a gun. Able to fall in love, even if only for the moment, and then send her to the gallows.

A replica of the Maltese Falcon had long resided in a display case at John’s Grill until it was stolen in February. Restaurateur John Konstin commissioned sculptors at the nearby Academy of Art University to make him a new one. Two students and an instructor presented their model of the bird. When the bronze sculpture is completed, it will be displayed in a highly protected case.
