Malcolm X was much more than just a “shrewd” operator. He was a principled political leader in the fight for Black rights. Despite his tactical disagreements with the predominant “non-violent” wing of the civil rights movement, Malcolm X stressed the need for all tendencies and organizations in the Black movement to come together – in action.

Malcolm X, a leading figure in the 20th-century movement for black liberation in the United States, and arguably its most enduring symbol, did not live to see his 40th birthday. His life was cut short just when his thinking and impact on the movement had reached a critical juncture.

Malcolm X was an uncompromising opponent of the U.S. government. In the early 1960s, his ideas for what road to take for Black freedom and equality represented the most militant wing of the fight against racism.

Malcolm X ... carries tremendous weight as a cultural icon, most notably in the films of Spike Lee. He has been used to symbolize an alternative, more militant vision of social protest than Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, nonviolence, and his name appears in rap and other African American poetry as a symbol of black pride.

Hewasanexample that one must take responsibility for his or her destiny, as pointed out in his autobiography, even if black people cant live as men and women, they should at least dieasone.
