The Malaysia national football team is the national team of Malaysia and is controlled by the Football Association of Malaysia. It has never qualified for the World Cup finals, although the team did qualify to play in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. However, Malaysia did not take part after heeding a United States-led boycott of the Games due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy and is governed under the constitution of 1957 as amended. The sovereign (the Yang di-Pertuan Agong) is a largely ceremonial head of state, and is elected every five years by and from the nine hereditary rulers of Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor. The current sovereign is Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.

Due to the rise in labour intensive industries, Malaysia has 10 to 20% foreign workers with the uncertainty due in part to the large number of illegal workers, mostly Indonesian. There are a million legal foreign workers and perhaps another million unauthorized foreigners. The state of Sabah alone has nearly 25% of its 2.7 million population listed as illegal foreign workers in the last census. However, this figure of 25% is thought to be less than half the figure speculated by NGOs.[51]

Malaysia practices freedom of religion and secularism. Freedom as in "You are free to join Islam", but you screw you if you try to leave. Secularism as in Malaysia is an Islamic state, you don't like it then GTFO N00B! Those who wish to commit apostasy are liable to imprisonment and caning. Also, they are ... raped through all available orifices as they believe that torturing the apostasy "offenders" will open their way to heaven, and give them 99 more virgins to their existing 72 as their reward by Allah for suicide bombing.

Malaysia has signed and ratified the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of Other States. Malaysia became a Contracting State on October 14, 1966 when the Convention entered into force, granting jurisdiction over investment disputes between the Government of Malaysia and non-Malaysian citizens to the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID, www.worldbank/org/icsid). ICSID is affiliated with but independent of the World Bank.

Following the Japanese occupation of Malaysia during World War II, a growing nationalist movement prompted the British to establish the semiautonomous Federation of Malaya in 1948. But Communist guerrillas took to the jungles to begin a war of national liberation against the British, who declared a state of emergency to quell the insurgency, which lasted until 1960.
