The Embassy takes part to all the events about Madagascar (trade shows, exhibitions, fairs…). In the first part of February, he has participated to the INDABA Salon about Mining in Cape Town.

This is the only inexpensive way to get around, but Madagascar's roads are almost all of very low grade (with the exception of 2 routes leading out of Tana). Many roads are studded with potholes and are quagmires in the rainy season. Be warned that travel by road will almost always take much more time than you would normally expect. Hire of a 4WD vehicle can solve this problem but the cost will be high.

The British accepted the imposition of a French protectorate over Madagascar in 1885 in return for eventual control over Zanzibar (now part of Tanzania) and as part of an overall definition of spheres of influence in the area. Absolute French control over Madagascar was established by military force in 1895-96, and the Merina monarchy was abolished.

The above graphic of a tree cross section is an example of the typical Madagascar rosewood tree. Only infrequently do the trees have more than two heavy ink-black lines coursing through a back panel. The trees are small, so the backs are rarely fully quartered (if ever).
