Essentially a western dressed up in post-apocalyptic duds, 1979’s Mad Max proved to be a surprisingly significant release. That seems especially true considering its origins as a low-budget offering made in Australia. However, its influence and success spread beyond those shores as the flick made quite a lot of money, and its dilapidated, gang-oriented setting proved to be very influential for many future releases. Oh, and it strongly launched the career of some guy named Mel Gibson.

Mad Max screenshot Mad Max is a game that is based on the post-apocalyptic movie of the same name. The object is to survive life after the end of the world by battling survivalists and collecting valuable food, water, gasoline, and money in order to continue racing into the desert wasteland that lies beyond. In the game you start out as what appears to be a futuristic armored vehicle, but in the game there are hidden parts that attach to your vehicle and form a type of robot.
Mad Max has a rigid skeletal frame covered with molded urethane foam. His vital points are marked in red and his right arm extends forward to simulate weapon attack. His skin consists of a resilient compound that is smooth enough to punch with bare hands or feet, (though gloves are suggested) , yet he is durable enough to tolerate a multitude of attacks. This unique feature allows him to be punched with a bare fist without the abrasion one normally gets from a canvas bag. (Mad Max is not for weapon use!)
Mel Gibson's career got off to a notable start with Mad Max (1979), in which he starred as Max Rockatansky, set adrift in a violent post-collapse setting. George Miller, who directed this would ... take the helm for two sequels. The action takes place in Australia, but in a near future in which the world has become dramatically less civilized. Although the viewer never learns specifically what has happened to change things – nuclear war, economic collapse, or possibly a global fuel shortage – it is clear from the outset that respect for authority has declined along with material wealth and that the country is on the brink of anarchy. Max is introduced as a police officer, one of a special group with high powered cars who track down the increasingly savage gangs that prey on travelers outside the cities.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome About 15 years after the events of Mad Max 2, nuclear war has finally destroyed what little was left of civilization. Grizzled and older, former cop Max (Mel Gibson) roams the Australian desert in a camel-drawn vehicle -- until father-and-son thieves Jebediah Sr. (Bruce Spence) and Jr. (Adam Cockburn) use their jury-rigged airplane to steal his possessions and means of transportation. Max soon winds up in Bartertown, a cesspool of post-apocalyptic capitalism powered by methane-rich pig manure and overseen by two competing overlords, Aunty Entity (Tina Turner) and Master (Angelo Rossitto), a crafty midget who rides around on the back of his hulking underling, Blaster (Paul Larsson). Seeking to re-equip himself, Max strikes a deal with the haughty Aunty to kill Blaster in ritualized combat inside Thunderdome, a giant jungle gym where Bartertown's conflicts are played out in a postmodern update of blood and circuses. Although Max manages to fell the mighty Blaster, he refuses to kill him after realizing the brute is actually a retarded boy. Aunty's henchmen murder Blaster nonetheless, then punish Max for violating the law that "Two men enter, one man leaves."
Mad Max George Miller, who directed Happy Feet as well as the three original Mad Max films, is currently slated to ... work on Happy Feet 2 and the Justice League movie. The rumor claims that while working on Mad Max 4 in Australia, Miller will also have his hand in both Happy Feet 2 and Justice League in some way. Sounds like this will be quite a feat juggling three massive movies all at the same time.
