Last month Macclesfield Town were hit hard by the F.A. who ordered the Cheshire club pay them in the region of £300,000 by the end of January. This took the form of a fine and repayment for offences relating to the building of the new stand. Two of these charges, which incorporate almost 80% of the full amount, the club still strenuously deny.

This is a large and impressive town church built in 1775-76 at the expense of Charles Roe, a local industrialist who was prominent in the development of the silk industry in Macclesfield. The church is built of brick, with cast-iron columns supporting the galleries inside. This is a very early use of cast iron in a church and may reflect Roe’s innovative and entrepreneurial character. The church is very plain inside and originally had clear glass in all windows. In the 19th century... some of these were replaced with fine stained glass by some of the best known manufacturers of the time. The east window glass was given in memory of Charles Roe’s son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Musically, Macclesfield is best known as the home town of Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris of Joy Division; a memorial to Curtis is located in Macclesfield Crematorium.[16] Other Macclesfield acts to have gained recognition include The Macc Lads and Marion. The Macclesfield band Silk Brass have ... gone on to receive a National Champion title in the brass band movement in 2003. Since 2004 Maccattack Promotions, and friends, have promoted a flourishing local music scene, with live acts playing at The Queens Hotel, Cuban Knights, The Townhouse and now The Swan With Two Necks.

Trips to Moss Rose and indeed anything involving Macclesfield Town have historically never been that fruitful for Yeovil Town. Hence this was not the best of matches to return to league football in after the euphoria of Charlton Athletic last week, and certainly not the best to have lost Paul Terry to a knee ligaments injury and Bartosz Tarachulski to a single match suspension after picking up five yellow cards. Gary Johnson brought in loan signing Kevin Amankwaah to make his debut at right-back, whilst Arron Davies got his first ever start for Yeovil up front with Phil Jevons.
