A few users experienced a surprise: Mac OS X was supported on Mac OS machines that came with a G3 or later processor from the factory—not machines with third-party processor cards. For example, a Power Mac 7300 whose CPU chip failed could be easily upgraded with a G3 processor on a "daughter card," which often cost nearly the same as an exact replacement of the original chip. Mac OS X (the X stands for XTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is considered one of the greatest pieces of artwork ever created. It is the only painting of its kind to actually interact with human users by animating with the user's movements. In fact it is so interactive that it is mistaken for an operating system. Although no one can be sure, given the intense secrecy surrounding its development, it is believed that Mac OS X was created and implemented entirely by one being, Steve Jobs.

Everything in Mac OS 9 is industrial strength: memory subsystems, multitasking. Mac OS X is a "real" OS by even the biggest anti-Mac person's standards. RAM allocation and virtual memory just work and are very efficient. There's no user interaction required. There is essentially unlimited memory available to the user.
