Lycos, an old-time Web portal and hosting service, is making inroads in the personal search arena. However, those concerned about privacy issues should read Lycos's home page for more details. Lycos offers a Web search engine, a subject directories, and several other services. In April 1999, it made its main directory a version of the Open Directory. In terms of general searching, Lycos made significant changes during the summer of 1997, tossing out their old search system for a new one. Then in January 2000, their advanced search switched again, this time to the FAST database. Also look for TV and film actors Seth Rogan, Michael Cera, Jenna Fischer, Miley Cyrus, and Christian Bale to put up big search numbers in the coming year. Television shows predicted to score hits online in 2008 include "LOST," "American Idol," "Survivor" and "30 Rock," while from the music scene, OneRepublic will rock web users. In the video game space, expect to see titles like Guitar Hero 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Spore, Mario Kart, Halo Wars, and Super Smash Bros.
