1. Lung -- Lung Cancer
   Lung cancer is among the most common cancers in the Western world. In the United States, there were approximately 170,000 new cases of lung cancer in 1999. Since the mid-1990s, about 150,000 Americans have died each year from this disease. Lung cancer is the leading category of cancer death in men, and—since the late 1980s—it has surpassed breast cancer as the leading category of cancer death in women. Findings from the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) indicate that the upward trend in cancer-related death is due to the rapidly increasing rate of lung cancer mortality.
2. Cancer -- Lung Cancer
   Lung Cancer is a disease that begins in the tissue of the lungs. The lungs are sponge-like organs that are part of the respiratory system. During breathing, air enters the mouth or nasal passage and travels down the trachea. The trachea splits into two sets of bronchial tubes that lead to the left and right lung. The bronchi branch off into smaller and smaller tubes that eventually end in small balloon-like sacs known as alveoli. The alveoli are where oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other substances are exchanged between the lungs and the blood stream.
3. Radon -- Lung Cancers
   Radon decays quickly, giving off tiny radioactive particles. When inhaled, these radioactive particles can damage the cells that line the lung. Long-term exposure to radon can lead to lung cancer, the only cancer proven to be associated with inhaling radon.
4. Andy Kaufman -- Lung Cancer
   In January 1984, Kaufman was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer. He had never smoked, and some even accused the consummate performer of faking his illness, even in its most advanced stages. He died on May 16, 1984, in Los Angeles, at the age of 35. Though Kaufman never married, it was later revealed that he and his high school sweetheart had a daughter who was born in 1969 and given up for adoption.
5. Lung
   Lung cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the lungs. It can spread to other parts of the body, most often to the liver, brain, bones, and other parts of the lungs, including the outer lining (called the pleura). Cancer from other parts of the body may ... spread to the lungs, but this is not called lung cancer.

   "Lung cancer is the poster child for why screening in high riskpopulations is important and necessary," said Breen. "We know from publishedclinical trials that by screening all smokers, for example, cure rates can beas high as 95 percent, but lung cancer is still the only major cancer forwhich screening is not encouraged, even among those at high risk."
7. Lung -- Lung Disease

Lung Cancer Alliance is committed to leading the movement to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering those with or at risk for the disease, elevating awareness and changing health policy.
8. Lung -- Lung Association
   The PEI Lung Association ... plans to step up its campaign for a provincial ban on smoking in cars by sending posters promoting www.cleanairforkids.ca out to doctors' offices, clinics and hospitals across the province. The posters will be distributed in the next two to three weeks.
9. Asbestos -- Lungs
   Asbestos and cigarettes are a particularly deadly combination. If a person exposed to asbestos ... smokes, his or her chance of getting lung cancer increases dramatically to 50 times that of a non-smoking, non-asbestos exposed person. If you have been exposed to asbestos, the first thing you should do to decrease your risk of getting lung cancer is stop smoking.
10. Tuberculosis -- Lungs
    Tuberculosis (say: too-burr-cue-low-sis)... called TB, is an infection caused by a bacteria (a germ). Tuberculosis usually affects the lungs, but it can spread to the kidneys, bones, spine, brain and other parts of the body.
