Lunch accounts are based on individual student identification numbers. Checks or cash may be deposited in lunch accounts before school (8:50 am). Parents can indicate how much, if any, money can be used to purchase snacks. Lunch allocation forms are available in the office and on the website.

Lunch, the most informal and unassuming of meals, defies easy definition. A relatively late entry into the cycle of dining, it is replete with socioeconomic forms and meanings. Though the notion of the lunch or luncheon is most often attributed to nineteenth-century Britain, the terms had long been in use in England, albeit in slightly different form. Descended from the Spanish lonja, referring to a slice of ham, as the Oxford English Dictionary notes, the term has been in use since the Middle Ages as a word for a small snack, often eaten in the fields during the workday and sometimes called nunchin. Dr. Johnson's 1755 Dictionary defines "luncheon" as "as much food as one's hand can hold." For many centuries, lunch or luncheon was precisely this: a hunk of food, a few hurried bites of sustenance, a snack.

Lunch's internal politics tend to be unstable, led by a series of weak coalitions headed at various times by Hamburger, Fries, Soda Pop, Pizza, and Fried Chicken. Intrigue and partisan squabbling is the norm. "Old-School" lunch leaders such as Hot Dog, Lemonade, Iced Tea, and Sub Sandwich have been pushed out of the power structure, while newly-arrived immigrant newcomers such as Chalupa, Dim Sum, Sushi, and the highly-dangerous Falafel have begun to make significant inroads. While the future of Lunch is difficult to predict, it seems likely to remain secure within its Midday territory for many more years, barring a major attack by the combined forces of the Republic of Indigestion and the Kingdom of Diarrhea.
