Ludacris "Ludacris is dying to be taken seriouslyat least some of the time. The Atlanta rapper has demanded respect from Bill OReilly and Oprah Winfrey. Hes cut his trademark braids to a more-sophisticated low fade. And on his sixth solo effort, Release Therapy, he even addresses issues such as child abuse and the prison population. The result is a solid album short on obvious club bangers but long on the more worldly perspective of a rap veteran."

Ludacris Growing up in a house where his parents valued music, Ludacris soaked in every note and set a course with the musical fates from an early age. Whether he struck gold or just put the phat rhymes down for his own, and a few fans, enjoyment his future had been set. The open mics and the school lunchroom verbal chess battles only fueled his fire. While working for Atlanta's then hip-hop radio station 97.5 as a producer for the night show he started to rap on voice over promos for the station. His local fame started to take shape. With his confidence growing he independently produced his first album Incognergro which spawned a minor hit in "What's Your Fantasy" in southern markets.
Although both Timbaland and Jermaine Dupri showed interest in signing Ludacris, he decided to take matters into his own hands, and released the album Incognegro independently in 1999. The album sold over 50,000 copies, most of them sold out of the trunk of his car. Through Scarface, Def Jam Records signed Ludacris in 2000, and created a new imprint, Def Jam South, around him. Def Jam then re-released a newer version of Incognegro, titled "Back for the First Time". The album launched Ludacris' career as a Southern rapper. Ludacris had more of a comedic rapping style earlier in his career ....

Before he became the “Dirty South's” most successful rapper, Ludacris worked as a DJ at a local Atlanta radio station. He used the opportunity to hone his craft on the mic, learn about the industry, and make a name for himself throughout the Atlanta area. Eventually, he began aspiring toward a career as a rapper rather than as a radio jock, and after working with Timbaland, Ludacris began taking his rap career seriously. In 2000 he recorded an album, Incognegro, and released it on his independent label Disturbing Tha Peace with the help of his producer Shondre. Incognegro sold impressively in Atlanta, where Ludacris had made a name for himself on the radio.
