Luc Besson: Movies
built 620 days ago
Here are the first two clips from Luc Besson's (The Fifth Element) upcoming film "Angel-A." The movie follows an unsuccessful scam artist (Jamel Debbouze) who tries to get his game back together with the help of a mysterious, beautiful woman (Rie Rasmussen) as they wander around on the streets of Paris.
Besson planned to focus on Marine biology but a diving accident at seventeen prevented him from being able to dive. He returned to Paris where he became drawn to film. He spent a few years in the United States before moving back home to start up his own production company, Les Films de Dauphins. Noteworthy films include Nikita, Point of No Return, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, The Transporter, Angel-A and Arthur and the Minimoys.
During his childhood, and especially during adolescence, Besson showed amazing creativity. Out of boredom, he started to write stories, including the backdrop to what would later become one of his most popular movies, The Fifth Element.[2] Besson directed and co-wrote the screenplay of this Sci-Fi thriller with the screenwriter, Robert Mark Kamen. The film is inspired by the American comic books Besson read as a teenager.
[W]hile Besson tends to hatch scenarios from his imagination, they are designed to entertain. In 1979, when he was a 20-year-old production assistant, he took a trip to Los Angeles. With a friend he visited Universal Studios, where he lucked into an invitation to visit the set of "The Nude Bomb," a comedy based on the television sitcom "Get Smart." Though Besson could see it wasn't a great movie, it was still a revelation.

EuropaCorp is one of Europe's leading production companies, having cultivated activities in movies, television, videos, music, and world sales. The company finances 8 to 10 films annually, and ... acquires movies.

Ms. Portman says that 13 years later “Léon: The Professional” is the film strangers most want to talk about when they first meet her. “It’s a lesson,” she said, “in how to separate the quality of a movie and how it stays with you from any kind of criticism or money.”
