Louvre Atlanta is an unprecedented exhibit of masterworks from the Musee de Louvre in Paris. Most of these masterworks have never traveled outside of France, and none will be exhibited anywhere else in the U.S.through 2009.

In Year Three (October 2008 - September 2009), Louvre Atlanta will explore the Louvre of today and tomorrow. Exhibitions under development for this year will highlight the development of the present-day Louvre and its new relations with society and the world.

Louvre Atlanta's three-year program is expected to cost $18 million. Much of that comes from High board member Anne Cox Chambers and corporate patrons Accenture, UPS, Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, AXA Art Insurance and Turner Broadcasting, parent of CNN.com.

Atlanta-based artist Jeff Williams is one of 12 artists selected to represent the U.S. for the first time ever in the esteemed Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SNBA) exhibit December 13-16 at the Carrousel du Louvre. Williams is showing his painting, Ladies of Leisure, along with other works from the Karen Lynne Gallery.

The High reports that since the ambitious Louvre Atlanta sequence of exhibitions opened in October 2006, some 205,000 people have visited the museum. That figure ranks it as No. 5 in High exhibition attendance history.
