Lloyd Bridges became a big star as skin diver Mike Nelson on "Sea Hunt" (1958-61). Bridges returned to television a year later in this ambitious 30-minute series, designed to showcase his range and depth as an actor. Bridges was 49 years old.

In seinen Hollywood-Filmen spielte Lloyd Bridges eher kleinere Rollen und wurde nie einer der Hollywood-Topstars. Dennoch bleibt er mit vielen guten Nebenrollen in Erinnerung. So in High Noon als Deputy-Sheriff Harvey Pell (1952) neben Grace Kelly und Gary Cooper. Erst der Durchbruch des Fernsehens machte ihn zu einem populären Schauspieler: Die Fernsehserie Abenteuer unter Wasser (Sea Hunt), in der Bridges den Taucher Mike Nelson spielte, war zwischen 1957 und 1961 eine der beliebtesten im amerikanischen und danach im deutschen Fernsehen. Nach dem Erfolg in dieser Serie spielte Bridges fast ausschließlich in Fernsehfilmen. So z. B. in The Loner, Roots oder Kampfstern Galactica.

In the '90's Lloyd was the principal TV spokesperson, in TV PSA's for the landmark "Flipper Seal of Approval", still the world's highest standard in "dolphin safe" fisheries products. His active work on this positive campaign helped convince the world's largest tuna firm, Starkist, to adopt the Flipper seal.
