Lizzie Mcguire: Lizzie Mcguire Movie
built 613 days ago
''The Lizzie McGuire Movie'' finds a way to pack them all off to Rome (except, mysteriously, Miranda, who's off on summer vacation when the film starts). Lizzie and Gordo are part of a school trip to the Eternal City; among the others coming along are snooty Kate and handsome-but-dim skateboarder Ethan (Clayton Snyder). Leading the excursion with ferocious military precision is Miss Ungermeyer (Alex Borstein), whose sardonic one-liners are, for mom and dad, all that keep the film from sliding into pink innocuousness.

On entertainment value alone, "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" works better than the recent Amanda Bynes comedy, "What a Girl Wants," if only because it moves at a quicker pace and is fifteen minutes shorter. It doesn't take too long... to come to the disheartening realization that screenwriters Susan Estelle Jansen, Ed Decter, and John J. Strauss have done a slight disservice to the show from which it is based. The dialogue is less witty by a half, and the show's mostly reality-based storylines have been traded in for a bogus daydream fantasy about celebrity treatment, lip-synching, and unexplained dopplegangers. With every other scene dedicated to music montages (an act of desperation to pad any movie's running time out), someone should have realized before they fast-tracked this screenplay into production that it was lacking most of what makes the series so darn endearing and fresh.

Well poop on all the worrying for while this isn’t the greatest film in the world, The Lizzie McGuire Movie is awfully amusing. Granted, it’s not going to ever be confused with an actual "good" movie, but for young kids looking for a diversion and parents hoping like crazy to find them one, this more than fits the bill.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie is a brainless, frothy-fairy tale for young girls (though parents won't feel tortured if they have to see it, too). The film is not going to do anybody any harm and will probably do the Italian Tourist Board a lot of good.
