As time has gone by, Little Egypt has greatly changed and gone are many of the old ways of the past. In some places... little has changed. Deep in some of the woods and hills, the customs, traditions and tales of the past are not yet forgotten. And of all of the region's myriad of tales, stories of the supernatural seem to be more common than any other. While many of the stories fall firmly into the realm of the folk legend, there are plenty of stories to give the reader a good case of the goosebumps.... all from a weird and mysterious place called "Little Egypt".
Depending on your definition of Little Egypt's boundaries, there are three interstates in the region. Interstate 57 is the main north-south highway through southern Illinois. It runs through the center of the area. South of Marion is the western terminus of Interstate 24. It runs southeast, crossing into Paducah, Kentucky near Metropolis.
Little Egypt first hit the scene with Straight Out the Sands in 2001. Then they released a mixtape in 2003 and have been off the radar since then. The Brooklyn brothers are back with The Crown Heights Affair, a six-song EP letting you know that while they may have been quiet, they didn't fall off. "The Heist: Casablanca" gets the EP/movie on disc off on the right foot as Visual Poetics rips the bouncy piano to shreds. The standout track on The Crown Heights Affair is easily the Visual Poetics and Chubb Rock-produced "The Far East." Over a dirty piano and heavy bassline, LE lets you know where it goes down. Another track to check is the Chubb Rock-produced "Be About It." Preaching a message of not fronting and staying true to yourself, Taajwar, Visual Poetics and Forge beat up Chubb's grimy drums.

The rivers and waterways of Little Egypt have always played a dominant role in its history and folklore. The early settlers, like the French, established themselves along the rivers and later, farmers would come to realize how much more simple it was to use the river to transport grain to market. The era of the steamboat created towns like Chester, Elizabethtown, Cairo, Metropolis, Golconda and Shawneetown. The towns became shipping ports with flour and lumber mills and even an iron foundry in Grand Tower. Travelers came to the towns by boat and hotels and establishments on the river front flourished. Many stories emerged from the rivers and the towns surrounding them, of wrecks, lawlessness, pirates and even ghosts.
