Eventually traveling to Paris the young Liszt sought admittance to the Paris Conservatory, but was denied by Luigi Cherubini on the grounds that he was a foreigner, even though Cherubini himself was Italian. Adam then resorted to Ferdinando Paer to teach Franz composition in 1824. It was during this time that Liszt wrote his first and only opera Don Sanche, later performed in 1825.

Adam Liszt had on August 4, 1819, already petitioned Prince Esterházy in favour of his son's education. In that petition he had estimated annual expenses of 1,300-1,500 Gulden. He did not expect the Prince would pay that sum. But he had asked for a position in Vienna. He himself could earn money, and his son could take lessons of a prominent master.[16] The petition was supported by Hofrat Johann von Szentgály, an official being in charge. But since no position in Vienna was vacant the petition was refused by the Prince.[17] In comparison with those 1,300-1,500 Gulden of annual expenses, the 600 Gulden Viennese Currency, in November 1820 being offered by the group of magnates, were by far not sufficient.
Born on Oct. 22, 1811, at Raiding, the son of Adam Liszt, an official in the service of Prince Nicholas Esterhàzy, Franz Liszt received his first instruction from his father. At the age of 9 he played in public for the first time. Shortly thereafter he moved with his family to Vienna, where he began his studies in piano with Carl Czerny and in composition with Antonio Salieri.

Since 1824, Liszt studied composition with Anton Reicha and Ferdinando Paer. From Adam Liszt's letters it is known, that his son had composed several concertos, sonatas, works of chamber music, and much more. While nearly all of those works are lost, some piano works of 1824 were published. They were Variations on an own theme op.1, Variations on a theme by Rossini op.2, an Impromptu on melodies by Rossini and Spontini op.3, and two Allegri di Bravura op.4.
Liszt was born in Doborjan, Hungary in 1811. From an early age, Franz exhibited a remarkable affinity for music and especially piano. When Franz was 6 years old, Adam Liszt (Franz's father) noticed his interest and proficiency in music. A year later, in 1818, Adam Liszt began giving his son piano lessons. Only one year later, Franz Liszt displayed a remarkable ability to play difficult music and even improvise!
Although born in 1811 in what is now Hungary, Liszt came from a German speaking family. His father Adam, played the cello and began to teach his son the piano when he was about the age of six.
