The 2006 Lincoln LS is a perfect example of a reasonable sporty look with ample luxury touches. For the current year model, it comes only in a Sport V-8 trim level. This model is especially designed to attract a younger, luxury-minded audience. Improved suspension revisions are used to improve noise, vibration and harshness that can be found in the 2004 model year. Introduced for the 2000 model year, the rear-wheel-drive LS sedan is based on the same platform as the Jaguar S-Type. It was launched to compete with the Acura TL, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Lexus' ES 330, GS 300 and GS 430.

The Lincoln Zephyr was launched as a replacement for the V6 version of the Lincoln LS, in the entry-level luxury car segment. A significant difference between the LS and the Zephyr is that the LS used a larger DEW98 midsize rear-wheel drive platform, shared wth the Ford Thunderbird and Jaguar S-Type, while the Zephyr's more compact CD3 platform is derived from the Mazda 6. The CD3 platform is shared with the similar Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. Visually the three cars are very similar in profile, with fascia styling variations, interior treatments and equipment levels differentiating the brands.

The LS is not only the least expensive Lincoln, it's ... the most youthful, with tailored, modern styling and crisp road manners. It's the most European in temperament of the Lincolns. Like luxury sedans from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar, the Lincoln LS uses rear-wheel drive, giving it that classic driving feel. It rides smoothly, yet feels connected to the road.

Sharing its platform DNA with the Jaguar S-Type sedan, the LS is built at Lincoln’s Wixom, Mich., manufacturing complex. The Lincoln sedan is available in four models: LS (base), LS Premium, LS Sport and LS Premium Sport. Engine choices include the upgraded 3.0L V-6 (LS, LS Premium) and the refined 3.9L V-8 (LS Sport, LS Premium Sport).
