Lincoln Ls: Cars
built 633 days ago
The Lincoln LS (for "Luxury Sport") is a midsize, rear wheel drive entry-level luxury car from Lincoln. It shares the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and Ford Thunderbird. It competes with the BMW 3 Series, Lexus ES, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Acura TL, Infiniti I35 and Cadillac CTS. LS versions were originally to be dubbed LS6 and LS8 depending on engine choice, but those designations were replaced with "LS V6" and "LS V8", to avoid confusion with Lexus nameplate trademarks. (Another rumor is that the LS6 deisgnation was dropped to avoid civil action against General Motors - this was an official RPO code for two engines - the legendary LS6 454 producing 450 horsepower.) The car is... usually referred to as simply the LS.

The 2005 Lincoln LS has new interior colors; Dark Stone / Medium Light Stone / Camel replaces former Dark Stone / Medium Light Stone two-tone. This interior can house 6 passengers in comfort and has plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The five models offer much to choose from, with varying levels of standard features across the lineup. However, even the base Luxury model is loaded with standards; air conditioning with dual automatic temperature control and air filtration, adjustable pedals, power-adjustable front driver and passenger seats, leather seating surfaces and AM/FM in-dash CD player are all included-after that, it depends on the model.

The Lincoln LS may be a Lincoln, but if you think it's a rolling sofa, then you're way off the mark. This is Lincoln's most youthful car and it's no cushy-mobile. In styling, style and performance, the LS is fashioned in the image of a European sports sedan. The LS is aimed squarely at the import competition, and in a broad sense it covers the mark. One indication of that is that it uses rear-wheel drive, the first mark of a sports sedan, like those from Mercedes and BMW.

The 2004 Lincoln LS is a kissin' cousin to the Jaguar S-Type, though each car has its own characteristics. The LS is more modest in styling, the suspension tuned to North American tastes, which demand a softer ride. Nevertheless one can buy a 2004 Lincoln LS with confidence, for it is a genuine driver's car and as for luxury, what else would you expect in a Lincoln? In fact the LS is now the only totally modern car Lincoln makes, the Town Car being old-fashioned and the SUVs being Fords in drag. A fine automobile and a bit of a sleeper.

The Lincoln LS combines true sports sedan performance with luxury car quality and comfort throughout. For 2006, the look has changed – courtesy of a revised front and rear fascia, as well as a body-colour grille surround with chrome accents – but the strengths of the LS remain unchanged. The superb, 3.9-litre V8 engine is both refined and powerful. The European sport-tuned suspension delivers an exhilarating ride and top-notch handling characteristics. And the interior is pure luxury. The Lincoln LS: What a luxury sports sedan should be.
