Lily Tomlin, one of America's foremost comediennes, continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation, and video. Throughout her extraordinary entertainment career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including: six Emmys; a Tony for her one woman Broadway show, Appearing Nitely; a second Tony as Best Actress, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics' Circle Award for her one woman performance in Jane Wagner's, The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe; a CableAce Award for Executive Producing the film adaptation of The Search; a Grammy for her comedy album, This is a Recording, as well as nominations for her subsequent albums Modern Scream, And That's the Truth, and On Stage; and two Peabody Awards — the first for the ABC television special, Edith Ann's Christmas: Just Say Noel and the second for narrating and executive producing the HBO film, The Celluloid Closet.

Tomlin has proved her amazing talent as she is nominated and won numerous awards and prizes. She has generated a huge fan-base with her every new concert and stand-up show. Tomlin was awarded with a Tony Award for performing in the hit 1985 one-woman Broadway show "The Search For Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe". This was written by Jane Wagner who has been her long-time life partner. She received the Sarah Siddons Award in 1989 for her work in Chicago theater. In 1998, She was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame. In 2003, Tomlin received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

Before her string of box-office comedies, Tomlin was nominated for an Oscar for her dramatic role in Nashville, directed by Robert Altman. Later, Tomlin would team up again with Altman for a part in his award-winning Short Cuts, playing opposite Tom Waits. Additionally, Lily Tomlin played the character of Miss Jane in the remake of The Beverly Hillbillies, produced two animated specials revolving around the character of Edith Ann (who ... made her own guest appearances on Sesame Street and Saturday Night Live), and had a regular role on Murphy Brown as Kay Carter-Shepley, the new FYI producer.

Sixteen years after its early tryouts in San Francisco, Wagner's ebullient solo vehicle for the ageless Tomlin has found new life in a freshly disordered age. "Search" is the hottest theater ticket in town and one of the biggest draws in the 20-year history of Theatre on the Square. This comes at a time when business at many other theaters is flat. The run has just been extended through Nov. 25.
