Lily Tomlin is a comedian and actress. She first shot to fame in 1970 when she joined the cast of the slapstick sketch show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Her most well-known characters include Ernestine (the "One ringy dingy, two ringy dingy..." telephone operator) and Edith Ann (the precocious child).

Tomlin made her television debut in 1966 on The Garry Moore Show and then made several memorable appearances on The Merv Griffin Show. After moving to California, Tomlin joined the cast of the top-rated Laugh-In and quickly gained popularity with her characterizations of Ernestine, an irascible telephone operator, and Edith Ann, a devilish six year old. In addition to her comedy work, Tomlin has played serious roles, including in Robert Altman’s Nashville as well as in And the Band Played On, an HBO special about the AIDs epidemic.
