At this point in history, as 2007 winds to a close, D’Wayne “Lil Wayne” Carter is indisputably the hottest MC in the game. (He’ll dispute the term “hot” himself, actually, but more on that later.) He’s accomplished this thanks to myriad mixtapes (the Dedication series, the Droughts, Tha Carter III Sessions) and a head-spinning number of remix verses, freestyles and collaborations that ensure fresh material is ever available. Even more impressive than the quantity... is the quality. With his witty punch-line fusillades and poetry-in-motion rants, Wayne has gone from being known more for his youth than his talent (he was considered, perhaps, the third-best lyricist in Cash Money’s Hot Boys quartet, after Juvenile and B.G.) to being widely hailed, in the press and by his peers alike, as a legitimate creative genius. In his words, he’s graduated “from hungry and made it to greedy.” Whether he’s a “whore” (as 50 Cent menacingly dubbed him) or not, no other artist has worked harder this year to win the hearts of rap fans, or done so as effectively.

Lil Wayne fans are eagerly awaiting both The Carter 3 and his two clothing lines. “The best rapper alive†Lil Wayne hopes to become “the best designer alive†when he releases Foreign Money for men and Double U for women. While particulars for Double U are being withheld Foreign Money is said to mimic his already rock star style. Not-so-baggy jeans and fitted tees are the predicted blueprint for his male line.

On January 23, 2008, Lil Wayne was arrested alongside two others. His tour bus was stopped by Border Patrol agents near Yuma, Arizona. Lil Wayne had a .44 caliber pistol. A K-9 Unit recovered 105 grams of marijuana (3.7 ounces), almost 29 grams of cocaine (1.02 ounces), 41 grams of Ecstasy (1.05 ounces) and $22,000 dollars in cash[11]. It was released that he has his Concealed Weapons License, completed for the state of Florida; ... the power of jurisdiction falls under state ruling, and his legitimacy of possessing a firearm in the state of Florida holds no significance in Arizona. He has since been released on bail of $10,185[12].

Lil Wayne was charged with three felonies in Yuma, Ariz., today, three days after the DEA seized drugs, cash, and a .40-caliber pistol from his tour bus. The charges: "one count each of felony possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia." The tragedy of hurricane Katrina had a tremendous affect on Lil Wayne and the Cash Money Records family. Not only did they lose material possessions (homes, cars), but family, friends and their beloved city. Lil Wayne plans on being an intricate part in rebuilding the city.

Oregon is extremely mad at the people who messed up Lil Wayne's "paperwork." He was supposed to play in Eugene on Saturday night and never made it. Everyone spent so much money to see him, and he couldn't be there, so we had to sit through the worst concert I've ever been to — $200 down the drain!
