Libya: Egypt

Neptune and Cassiopeia Personified as an individual, Libya was the daughter of Epaphus — a son of Zeus and King of Egypt — and Memphis. Libya was ravished by the god Poseidon to whom she bore twin sons, Belus and Agenor. Some sources name a third son, named Lelex. Such genealogies, when applied to a personification of a land, were suggestive to Greek audiences, but need some explication for ordinary modern readers. ( ... some cautious explanation of the cultural / legendary meaning of this Argive genealogy is needed )
Landmine Monitor According to Libyan officials, there are no maps of mines emplaced along the border with Chad, but maps exist for those laid along the border with Egypt.[16] Italy handed over to Libya maps showing the locations of World War II minefields. In June 2005, Libya reiterated its call for other countries to hand over maps of minefields on Libyan territory.[17]

Libya ... strongly condemned the proposals for Middle East peace that were agreed by other Arab states in Fez, Morocco, in September 1982. None the less, in the 1990s Egypt and Libya sustained a close relationship, with Egypt acting an intermediary between Libya and Western nations, and Libya providing economic opportunity for Egyptians.

Glimpses of Libya Berbers once constituted the chief ethnic group in Libya but have been largely assimilated into Arab culture, with Berbers and Arabs now making up over 95% of the population. There are scattered communities of Berbers, and in Fazzan many persons are of mixed Berber and black African descent. There are ... smaller groups of Italians, Greeks, Maltese, Egyptians, Pakistanis, Turks, Indians, and Tunisians. Labor shortages in the agriculture and petroleum industries have attracted many foreign workers, mostly from Egypt, Tunisia, and Turkey. There are large numbers of foreign workers in Libya; in 1995 several thousand of them without proper papers were expelled. Some 5% of the people live as pastoral nomads, mostly in Cyrenaica.
Passports and visas are required for entry into Libya for all nationalities except nationals of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia. Those who have passports indicating travel to Israel will not be allowed to enter. It is now legal for Americans to travel to Libya and spend money there. Soon US citizens will be able to get visas from the new Libyan Embassy in Washington, DC.
