Lexar Media is banking on a digital picture being worth more than a thousand words. The company designs and markets memory cards and connectivity products (USB flash drives) for the digital photography, consumer electronic, and communications markets. Lexar's products (which are made by third parties) are sold mostly in the US (which accounts for more than half of sales), as well as in Japan, Korea, the UK, Europe, and Canada. Customers include retailers, OEMs, and licensees. Lexar has a licensing agreement with Kodak to make and distribute Kodak-branded memory cards. Micron Technology bought Lexar in mid-2006 for about $850 million.

Lexar Media intends to incorporate PowerToGo into its line of JumpDrive products. PowerToGo will let users install and run many Windows applications from their Lexar JumpDrive. Additionally, PowerToGo provides the security of a private session by knowing no trace of files is left behind on a workstation when the drive is removed. The PowerToGo solution will be available on most JumpDrives starting in spring of 2006.

Lexar Media - one of the most prominent players in the USB flash drive arena - has announced today that Micron Technology has acquired the company in a stock-for-stock merger for $688 million. Under the definitive agreement, each outstanding common share of Lexar will receive 0.5625 shares of Micron stock.
Micron Technology, Inc. and Lexar Media Inc. have reached a definitive agreement for Micron to acquire Lexar in a stock-for-stock merger. Under terms of the agreement, each outstanding common share of Lexar will receive 0.5625 shares of Micron stock. Micron anticipates issuing shares in exchange for 81.6 million Lexar shares outstanding. Additional Micron shares will be issued upon the exercise of assumed stock options.
