Whether Lev Leviev is involved or not, the situation serves as a reminder that running underneath the issues of politics and security are economic interests. With no state of their own, and no electoral voice in the Jewish state, the Palestinians are a disempowered people. They are sitting on some valuable West Bank resources. If well-connected Israelis decided they could make a profit off their land, would it come as a suprise that the Palestinians find themselves with the short end of the stick?

Leviev is a strong family man and the father of nine children. Recently, he appointed his eldest daughter to be the CEO of Africa-Israel, which may have been an advanced notification of his intention to relocate. He has ... been recently quoted that he is very dissatisfied with the present political situation in Israel and also in the manner in which many non-religious Israelis are living, including their desecration of the Sabbath and religious holidays. Israel’s dealing with the Palestinians has also been disappointing to Leviev, especially in regards to the Olmert government’s willingness to return most of the West Bank in return for a peace agreement.

OK, but Leviev now subjects the Palestinians of the West Bank to the yoke of Zionism, by funding settlements. And Susan Sarandon blithely shops at his Madison boite. When oh when will the American press take on the settlements, which have disgraced America's image around the world, in anything like the way the Israeli press does?
