built 630 days ago
The Leviev Group, owned by Mr. Lev Leviev, is the world’s largest producer of cut diamonds, with an annual turnover exceeding U.S. Dollars 2.5 billion, in the diamond business alone. The Leviev Group is the only producer of cut diamonds in the world that is independent of any supplier of rough diamonds, and it is capable of supplying its own rough inventory in its entirety. The Leviev Group is the only diamond group in the world with control over the whole diamond “life cycle”, starting from the ownership of mines, through trade in rough diamond, cutting and polishing. The Leviev Group is active in various countries, including Israel, Russia, United States, Belgium, Angola, Namibia and South Africa, and is a leading group in the global diamond industry. Mr Lev Leviev controls additional investments and holding companies worldwide (some of which are public companies), with interests in real estate, energy, hotels, telecommunication and fashion.

At this time, the Lev Leviev Group of Companies does not have an additional statement. However, please note the corrected version of the Lifestyles piece (mentioned by Adalah), which correctly lists the groups and institutions that have been recipients of Mr. Leviev's philanthropy. http://www.lifestylesmagazine.com/website/current/stories/213/Lifestyle_213_002.html
Just as Lev Leviev opened its new store in Madison Avenue, a Palestinian interest group Adalah-NY demonstrated protests against the company outside its New York City office, demanding a ban. The group narrated their reasons with slogans like “you sparkle, you shine, but settlements are still a crime”. According to the group, Leviev has built five illegal settlements on Palestinian land in the West Bank.
The Lev Leviev Group of Companies and H. Stern Jewelry and Precious Stones Ltd. are expanding their collaboration with the opening of two more stores in Moscow at an investment of $1.5 million. One store will open in the GUM department store on Red Square, and the other store will open next month at Sheremetyevo International Airport. The joint venture is due to open 50 H. Stern stores across Russia and other CIS countries by 2010. The stores will be located in malls, airports, and hotels in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, and other major cities.
New York, NY, Jan 14, 2008 รข€“ Correcting earlier media reports of a relationship between Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev and Oxfam, Oxfam told the New York City human rights group Adalah-NY that "Leviev has not been a donor to Oxfam." Oxfam explained that it does not "knowingly accept funds from any business involved in any illegal activity, or operating in any illegally occupied territory, including settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories." Following reports that Leviev contributes to Oxfam in Women's Wear Daily, Lifestyles Magazine and on the news site of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS, of which Leviev is the President, Adalah-NY had written to Oxfam asking the international charity to reject contributions from Leviev. There was no immediate explanation of why these publications had reported that Leviev supported Oxfam.

Having fled the yoke of communism as a teenager living in Uzbekistan, Lev Leviev knows oppression firsthand and has used his self-made success to alleviate suffering around the world. His generosity to numerous groups and organizations is motivated by the wish to do good things for others. Despite the negative characterization of his philanthropy by some political groups, Lev Leviev continues to use his philanthropy solely toward that goal.
