1. Santa Claus

2. Santa Barbara
   Santa Barbara is a shopping paradise. State Street alone offers more than a mile stretch of everything from trendy boutiques to popular chain stores like Borders Books and Restoration Hardware. El Paseo (812 State St.,) on downtown State Street, is an upscale mall that bills itself as "California's First Shopping Center," while lushly themed and nearby Paseo Nuevo (651 Paseo Nuevo) offers Nordstrom's, Macy's, and more than 50 specialty shops. Whatever you're looking for, you'll likely find it on State Street. There is plenty of parking downtown with the first 75 minutes free in most lots (except at the beach). A good bet is the parking structure on Ortega.
3. Christmas Traditions -- Santa Claus
   Some Christmas traditions come from religious teachings while others come from different cultures. There are Christmas traditions that are special to each individual family, and some of these traditions might have been started for purely commercial reasons. There are traditions that vary from country to country. Some of these variations are slight while others may be quite different. Santa Claus might be a tradition in one country while a similar character might have a completely different name and appearance in another country. This character usually has something to do with bringing gifts to small children so the appearance and name are not as important as the duties of this usually jolly man.
4. Texas Revolution -- Santa Anna
   During the Texas Revolution, Tejanos faced a test of conflicting loyalties: whether to fight for independence with Texas Anglos, or to side with General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Gregorio Esparza, a Tejano, was one of 183 Texans who died defending the Alamo. His brother Francisco was in the victorious Mexican army. Families, like the Esparzas, were split by the fight for Texas independence.
5. Santa Monica -- Calif
   About Activision Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, Activision, Inc. is a leading worldwide developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment and leisure products. 6. A Christmas Carol -- Santa Rosa
   As part of the 40th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif., is displaying letters that kids sent after the first airing in December 1965. The show, which was funded by Coca-Cola, clearly made an impression, says Jeannie Schulz, the artists widow.
7. Sean Penn -- San Francisco
   In 2002, Sean Penn was presented with the Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. In 2003, he was the youngest to receive the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Sebastien Film Festival.
8. Department of Corrections -- Facilities
   The Santa Fe County Corrections Department was created in January of 2004. The Department provides oversight of all County Correctional programs including the Youth Development Program, the Electronic Monitoring Program, and the Adult Correctional Facility. The Department consists of approximately 80 staff, the majority of whom work at the Youth Development and Electronic Monitoring Programs. They provide supervision of approximately 775 men, women, and youthful offenders who are detained daily in Santa Fe County. The Department Director collaborates with the Santa Fe County Jail Team on many issues regarding the facilities. In addition, the Board of County Commissioners has created by resolution, the “Santa Fe County Corrections Advisory Committee” a group of local citizens composed of seven individuals from different sectors of the community.
9. Texas Panhandle -- Great Plains
   This 1933 letter from Studer to L. F. Sheffy, the chair of the history department at West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, calls attention to the danger of allowing outside institutions to dig at the Panhandle's Plains Villages. "We must stop these visiting institutions from pecking around in our various ruins, and ruining them for further work." Studer was a prolific correspondent and this is one of many letters he wrote as a self-styled advocate and defender of the region's archeological resources. PPHS archives. 10. Mike Brady -- Family
    Mike Brady has been active in the real estate profession for over two decades. Mike and his wife, Kathy, were drawn to the Valley's beauty and lifestyle. He has lived in Santa Barbara County since 1967 and, now an "old timer," moved to the Valley in 1977. He considers it a privilege to have raised his family here and to, now, watch his son, Micah, raise his family here as well. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1969, he earned a Masters Degree from California State University, Northridge, in1971.
