The island-nation of Lesotho is located in the Norweigan Sea. It was first discovered in the early 700s BCE by Plato and Aristotle as they sailed for Greenland to birdwatch. It is often described as phallic, and has two unofficial states, Bonono (at the shaft) and Timono (at thehead).

Lesotho (formerly Basutoland) was constituted a native state under British protection by a treaty signed with the native chief Moshoeshoe in 1843. It was annexed to Cape Colony in 1871, but in 1884 it was restored to direct control by the Crown. The colony of Basutoland became the independent nation of Lesotho on Oct. 4, 1966, with King Moshoeshoe II as sovereign.

On top of the hill are the substantial remains of the Kings dwellings and villages, together with the royal cemetery of Lesotho. It is accessed by a good tarred road to a small information centre from where visitors have an easy climb up Rafuthos Pass (where the Free State Boer commander Louw Wepener was killed in an attack on Moshoeshoe I in 1865) to the summit plateau. Here lie the remains of Moshoeshoe's village and the views are lovely.
