1. Lesbians
   Lesbians are women who love women. Lesbians are sexually attracted to other women and their sexual feelings toward other women are normal and natural for them. Lesbians say they feel emotionally and spiritually closer to women and prefer intimate relationships with women. Experts estimate than about one out of 10 people may be lesbian or gay, and many historically famous women were lesbians. Lesbians include teachers, doctors, lawyers, factory workers, police officers, politicians, ministers, movie stars, artists, mothers, nuns, truck drivers, models, and novelists. Lesbians are white, black, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American.
2. Lesbianism
   The Renaissance of Lesbianism in Early Modern England is the eagerly-awaited study by the feminist scholar who was among the first to address the issue of early modern female homoeroticism. Valerie Traub analyzes the representation of female-female love, desire and eroticism in a range of early modern discourses, including poetry, drama, visual arts, pornography and medicine. Contrary to the silence and invisibility typically ascribed to lesbianism in the Renaissance, Traub argues that the early modern period witnessed an unprecedented proliferation of representations of such desire. By means of sophisticated interpretations of a comprehensive set of texts, the book not only charts a crucial shift in representations of female homoeroticism over the course of the seventeenth century, but ... offers a provocative genealogy of contemporary lesbianism. A contribution to the history of sexuality and to feminist and queer theory, the book addresses current theoretical preoccupations through the lens of historical inquiry.
3. Lesbians -- Discrimination
   In a 1998 study that analyzed 50 years of coverage of gay and lesbian issues in Time and Newsweek, Lisa Bennett found that news media reinforce prejudice and discrimination against gays and lesbians. She observes that gays and lesbians are often linked to deviant or criminal behaviour without evidence to support such claims; and that the media often reprint offensive and homophobic comments. Bennett concludes that such practices reinforce assumptions that gays and lesbians are inherently inferior.
4. Lesbians -- Women
   The cultural origins of African American lesbians and bisexual women are rooted in the tribes of Western Africa and in their identity as descendants of slaves who were unwilling immigrants to the United States. Historically, all black women in the diaspora have the horrific legacies of the slave trade in common. Prior to leaving Africa and becoming slaves, African women were not a homogeneous group. To the contrary, the mixed pre-slavery lineages of African women included membership in many different tribes speaking hundreds of distinct languages, with different systems of family values, relations, and tribal customs. Furthermore, the wide range of differences in the kinds of slavery policies practiced in the different countries to which slaves were taken, as well as the presence of cross ethnic relationships/marriages, created even greater heterogeneity among group members. All of these pre-slavery diversities and post-slavery realities gave rise to a wide range of expressions of female sexuality, and therefore, to same-sex sexual relationships among Black women in the diaspora.

6. Switchboard -- Lesbian Switchboard
   The Gay and Lesbian Switchboard of Harrisburg is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that operates an information resource center for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered communities of Central Pennsylvania. The Switchboard operates a telephone and internet information services and conducts other special projects to deliver information about, and to, the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered communities. The Switchboard resource information covers the geographic regions including Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, Reading, Williamsport and State College.
7. Gay Parents -- Lesbians
   But just because gay parents have a higher percentage of gay offspring doesn't mean that their parenting styles are responsible. If homosexuality is largely genetic--as Bailey's own groundbreaking studies of twins suggest--then it makes sense that homosexuality would run in families. Alex Tinker has an aunt, one of Bonnie's sisters, who is ... a lesbian. And if being gay is at times a choice--as some homosexuals say--then it also is logical that kids with positive gay role models would be more likely to see homosexuality as an OK choice. 8. The L Word -- Lesbians
   It's clear that "The L Word" is a drama meant for everyone. It's not some exclusive lesbian-only venture - something lesbians will discover (and possibly mock) in the first few main scenes as the Big Issues being discussed have a clear Lesbian 101 taint to them. But that's not a major stumbling block. All storytellers want to bring everyone into the tent, and Chaiken is no different.
9. Rosie Jones -- Lesbians
   Rosie Jones developed her relationship with the lesbian vacation company while on a cruise last year. The seasoned golf pro then decided to make the unprecedented leap of writing an open letter to the New York Times to both announce her new endorsement and state for the record what family, friends, and lots of golf fans had known for a long time.
10. Lesbians -- Gay Men
    Gittings first came to the public spotlight in 1965 when she and a handful of gay men and lesbians held demonstrations outside the White House and Independence Hall seeking equal rights for homosexuals. These were the first such demonstrations in American history and began an era of gays coming out of the closet. Gittings' involvement in the gay rights movement started in the late 1950s when she helped organize the New York City chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis (D.O.B.). It was there she met her life partner Kay Lahausen, who has been by her side for 46 years.Gittings other accomplishments include head of the American Library Association's Gay Task Force. In 2003 The American Library Association presented Gittings with it's highest honor, a lifetime membership. She was an active cornerstone in the campaign that led to the American Psychiatric Association dropping its categorization of homosexuality as a mental illness in 1973.
