Participants completed the Pediatric Refractive Error Profile (PREP) survey at the baseline visit, and a PREP for contact lens wearers at the one- week and one-month visits. The PREP survey compares the vision-specific quality of life between children wearing contact lenses and children wearing glasses. PREP scores are calculated on a scale that ranges from zero (poor quality of life) to 100 (excellent quality of life).

A compound lens is a combination of two or more lenses in which the second surface of one lens has the same radius as the first surface of the following lens and the two lenses are cemented together. Compound lenses are used instead of single lenses for color correction, or to introduce a surface which has no effect on the aperture rays but large effects on the principal rays, or vice versa. Sometimes the term compound lens is applied to any optical system consisting of more than one element, even when they are not in contact.

During an inspection of your facility located at 8507 Pelham Rd., Greenville, SC 29615, on March 22, 2006 through May 15, 2006, investigators from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) determined that your firm manufactures contact lens solutions. Under section 201(h) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act), 21 U.S.C. 321(h), these products are devices because they are intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or are intended to affect the structure or function of the body.
It is estimated that Acanthamoeba keratitis infections occur in approximately 2 out of every 1 million contact lens users in the United States each year. However, in a multi-state investigation to evaluate a recent increase in Acanthamoeba keratitis cases, CDC determined that the risk of developing AK was at least seven times greater for those consumers who used Complete MoisturePlus solution versus those who did not. Additional information regarding the CDC results is available at the CDC website

Today many newer contact lens materials are available providing improved comfort to people suffering from dry eyes than was previously possible with older lens materials. Specially designed polymers have been developed which dry out less on the eye, resulting in less awareness of the lens, better clarity of vision and less reliance on wetting drops.
"Senofilcon A has previously shown promising results for reducing lens-wear related symptoms of dryness and discomfort," she adds. "This study shows that contact lenses made with senofilcon A may be superior to other soft lens materials in terms of minimizing dryness symptoms associated with exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Senofilcon A was ... found to reduce discomfort symptoms even beyond that experienced with no lens, indicating a protective effect."
